The Honda Accord leads a consensus field of well-rounded mid-size sedans, with the Toyota Camry, Kia K5, Hyundai Sonata, and Nissan Altima offering distinct strengths.
The Accord is the strongest all-around choice, combining roomy practicality, polished driving dynamics, and strong fuel-economy potential.
Honda's 2026 Accord release lists 192-hp turbocharged LX/SE models and 204-hp hybrid trims. EPA combined ratings range from 31-32 mpg for the gas trims to 44-48 mpg for hybrids, depending on trim; actual mileage varies. The Camry is the efficiency-focused pick, pairing a roomy cabin and comfortable ride with a standard hybrid powertrain.
Toyota's current Camry page lists an all-hybrid lineup with available electronic on-demand all-wheel drive. Its quoted 51 combined EPA-estimated mpg applies to the LE trim, not every Camry configuration; actual mileage varies. The K5 stands out with distinctive styling, available all-wheel drive, a comfortable ride, and appealing value.
Car and Driver and CARFAX describe the K5 as well-equipped and relatively affordable, with available AWD, a peppy turbo engine, and comfortable road manners. The Sonata offers a feature-rich, soft-riding experience with bold styling and strong warranty appeal.
Car and Driver's midsize-sedan comparison describes the 2026 Sonata as affordable, soft-riding and well equipped. Gas and hybrid versions have different fuel-economy ratings, so compare the specific trim rather than treating every Sonata as the same configuration. The Altima remains a practical commuter sedan, offering efficiency and available all-wheel drive despite less excitement than leading rivals.
Nissan's 2026 Altima page lists available Intelligent All-Wheel Drive and fuel economy up to 26 city/36 highway mpg. Those figures depend on trim and equipment; AWD is optional and actual mileage varies.Three independent write-ins unlock an honorable mention.
